Water Waste

Failure to repair a malfunctioning irrigation
system is water waste.

When you sign up for water service with the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD), you agree to abide by our Service Rules, which are a contract between the district and its customers. Wasting water is a violation of the Service Rules.

What is Water Waste?

Water waste is defined by the Service Rules as:

• Any Water District water you allow to flow or spray off your property
• Using landscape irrigation between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. from May 1 until Oct. 1.
• Failure to repair a malfunctioning device or supply line for more than 48 hours
• Discharging swimming pool or spa water off the property where discharge into a public sanitary sewer is available
• Non-compliance with watering group assignments as part of the mandatory watering schedule
• Non-compliance with regulations related to washing vehicles, equipment, driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, streets or other surfaces or objects
• Non-compliance with regulations relating to ornamental water features and misting systems

Notification

If the Water District notifies you of water waste, you are given the opportunity to fix the problem. If you continue to waste water, you will receive a fee on your water bill. Fees vary depending on meter size, the account's history of violations and the drought stage.

Customers may protest fees and request a hearing from an outside source. First-time fees can be rebated for those who attend a free Curbing Water Waste class.
