Transmission
and Delivery: How water travels
The Water District's transmission and distribution system consists
of over 4,100 miles of underground pipeline. This hidden network of pipes
is water's pathway through the city.
Major transmission mains move water from treatment
plants and reservoirs to neighborhood distribution pipes. From there,
the water is delivered to homes and businesses.
The Water District's transmission and distribution
network serves metropolitan Las Vegas, as well as small systems in Blue Diamond,
Jean, Kyle
Canyon and Searchlight.
Pipeline reliability
The Water District will be the first U.S. agency to fully implement the Computer-Aided Rehabilitation of Water networks system, commonly known as CARE-W.
CARE-W is an asset management tool that allows engineers to create a logical and cost-efficient strategy for the preventive maintenance and repair of the district's transmission system. This strategy of proper analysis and preventive maintenance allows the district to repair the right pipelines at the right time at a minimum cost before failure occurs. The goal is to ensure a steady and reliable water supply that meets the needs of valley residents and business owners.
