McGruff
Truck® Youth Watch Program
The Water District wants to be more
than a public servantwe want to take an active part in the
community we serve. That's why we're proud to participate in the Clark County McGruff Truck Youth Watch Coalition.
The McGruff Truck Program is a nationwide program coordinated by the National McGruff House® Network and carried out by local
agencies across the country.
With the help of McGruff the Crime Dog ®, the program's
goal is to "Take A Bite Out Of Crime® " by improving neighborhood
safety and offering help in emergency situations to children. The message of the McGruff Truck Program is, "We'll Call for Help."
Water District field employeeswho drive throughout
the city every dayare trained to provide assistance or appropriate help when flagged down by a child in distress.
The McGruff Truck decal is clearly displayed on the front and back
of district service trucks, letting children know that they can
safely ask for help.
Children are taught to wave both arms overhead when
they see a McGruff truck and need help. McGruff truck drivers then
find out what the problem is, use a two-way radio to call the appropriate
authorities and wait with the child until help arrives.
In recent years, two district employees have received
the McGruff Truck Youth Watch Award for their outstanding efforts
in the McGruff Truck Program. This type of enthusiastic participation
represents the district's commitment to the youth of our valley
and our desire to help keep Las Vegas' neighborhoods safe.
