Hydrogen Road Tour 08
The Hydrogen Road Tour is a cross-country series of events that demonstrates the progress and commitment toward commercially viable, emissions-free hydrogen vehicles. The Hydrogen Road Tour is presented by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the U.S. Department of Energy, the California Fuel Cell Partnership, the National Hydrogen Association and local agencies.
The tour began in Portland, ME on Aug. 11 and features 33 stops in 17 states and Washington D.C. The hydrogen tour stops at the Las Vegas Valley Water District’s Hydrogen Fueling Station for an invite-only event on Aug. 21 and concludes Aug. 23 in Los Angeles.
Hydrogen Vehicle Manufacturers
The tour highlights vehicles from several major manufacturers including BMW, Daimler, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen.
Why Hydrogen?
Hydrogen can be produced locally by several different methods. Hydrogen is a sustainable, emission-free energy source for heat and electricity production and can fuel the next generation of highway vehicles. Hydrogen promotes America's energy independence, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and improves air quality while preserving safety and U.S. jobs.
LVVWD Hydrogen Refueling Station
The result of a partnership with the UNLV Research Foundation, the LVVWD refueling station is one of only a few solar-powered hydrogen filling stations in the nation. Using power collected by solar panels, generators use electrolysis to extract hydrogen from water, which is stored and used as fuel. The hydrogen created at the facility fuels converted Water District vehicles used mainly at the Springs Preserve. |
