Cookie
technology has two parts that enable information to flow back and
forth between your computer and a server. To better understand this
interaction, let's look at the relationship between your computer
and the Las Vegas Valley Water District server:
First,
a cookie is stored on your computer when you request or consent
to one of our services. Your Web browser receives a cookie and stores
it in a special file called a cookie list. The information (in this
case, your consent) is formatted by our Web server, transmitted
to your Web browser and then saved on your computer.
The
second part of the cookie technology transmits information from
your computer to our Web servers. This information is used to customize
Web pages that complete your information request. In short, your
browser will send the cookie containing your information to our
server for processing. The Web server will then customize the page
for you according to the contents of that cookie and give the information
you requested.
