Searchlight water comes from groundwater.
The Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) owns, operates and maintains the Searchlight Water System, which is governed by the Las Vegas Valley Water District Board of Directors. The board has sole responsibility for establishing rates, rules and regulations for the sale, distribution and use of water within Searchlight.
The Searchlight Water System service area is supplied by two wells in Piute Valley. Well S-2 is the primary well and the second well, S-1, is used only in emergencies.
The two wells are typically not in use at the same time. The wells in Searchlight are recharged by precipitation and snow melt runoff from the Lucy Gray Range, Castle Mountains and McCullough Mountains, as well as from groundwater flows from the adjacent upgradient valley.
